'Thalaivasal' Vijay, one of the finest character artists in Tamil cinema is going to play the lead in the Malayalam film Yugapurushan. The film directed by R.Sukumaran was in the planning stages for years.
Yugapurushan is a bio- pic on Sree Narayana Guru the saint, prophet and social reformer who broke the caste system in Kerala . 'Thalaivasal' Vijay will play Narayana Guru, a role which was offered to Mammootty and Mohanlal, as he has a close resemblance to the reformer and saint.
Mammootty is doing a cameo as K.C Kuttan, a friend of Narayana Guru, while Mohanlal is doing the role of Swami Vivekananda. Some of the other important characters like Gandhiji, Ravindranath Tagore, Ayyankali, Kumaranasan, E.V Ramasamy Naicker and other famous historical personalities will be played by Tamil actor Sathyaraj, Kalabhavan Mani, Jagathy Sreekumar, Siddique, Sai Kumar, Babu Antony, Saiju Kurup, K.P.A.C Lalitha, Sukumari and others.
Music is by the veteran Mohan Sithara, and cinematography by Ramachandra Babu, elder brother of noted cameraman Ravi. K Chandran. The film is produced by A.V Anoop, the owner of Medimix under the AVA banner.
The shoot of the film has commenced on a set created by the veteran art director Krishnan Kutty at Varikasseri Manna near Shornoor from Friday January 23.
